RECAP: STOKE CITY 2 - 1 ASTON VILLA
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
ANDREW VORCE - Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Aston Villa continued to stumble even though Brad Friedel produced another stellar performance in the back as Stoke City came from behind to claim all three points.

Stewart Downing opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a glorious header after a quality cross in from Gabriel Agbonlahor.

With Robert Huth wrong sided, Downing laid out to send a curling header from 10 yards out to Thomas Sorensen's far post.

Kenwyne Jones was the benefactor from a good Matthew Etherington cross into the box in the 80th minute.

Jones rose above the rest to divert an inch perfect header to the scurrying Friedel's back post.

After making multiple saves throughout the match, everything was done for Friedel in added time when defender Robert Huth scored the game winning goal.

Villa failed to clear their lines, and Etherington's goalwards shot was directed into the back of the net by Huth in the last kick of the game.

Danny Collins picked up a yellow for Stoke City, while Stiliyan Petrov and Stephen Warnock were booked for Aston Villa.

Brad Guzan was on the bench, and Villa next take on Bolton at home.
