EXTRA TIME
BRI-MATHIAS HODGE - Sunday, August 1, 2010
Daniel Antunez and Inter continued their recent woes with a tie against lowly Lahti while Greg Eckhardt and Vaasa had a rough trip to the capital in this weekend's Finnish action.

FC Lahti 1 - 1 FC Inter

Daniel Antunez started and went the distance as Inter dominated but were forced to share the points with last-place Lahti Sunday at Lahden Stadium.

Kennedy Nwanganga got the visitors from Turku on the board first in the 34th minute, tapping in a Joni Kauko cross from the left hand side.

The Inter defense couldn't make it stand up as Finnish legend Jari Litmanen evened the score just nine minutes later, finishing off a pass from Kalle Eerola after being left completely alone.

Inter attacked throughout the second half, trying to find the winner, but were left short handed when Nwanganga had to leave the game five minutes from time with a twisted ankle and the guests had already used their allotted three substitutions.

Inter move up to fifth in the Veikkausliiga standings with the point while Lahti remain in the cellar, still one point back of Oulu.

HJK 3 - 0 VPS

Greg Eckhardt started and went the distance in defense for Vepsu as they were felled by the capital club at the Finnair Stadium on Saturday evening.

HJK got out in front after 34 minutes when Akseli Pelvas served up Jarno Parikka, who lofted the ball over VPS keeper Kwon Jung-Hyuk for the game's first goal.

Three minutes later Pelvas would also get his name on the scoresheet with a blast from the edge of the area to double the home team's lead.

Eckhardt almost notched his first career Veikkausliiga goal 73 minutes in, but was denied by the post off of a corner.

Johannes Westö responded for HJK five minutes later putting the game out of reach with a slotted shot into the bottom corner after intercepting a Jens Nygård pass along the backline..

American keeper Brian Pope remains out with a shoulder injury for VPS.

The win stretches HJK's lead in the standings to eight points while VPS are now in eigth place.
