EXTRA TIME
JON VAN WAGENEN - Thursday, May 6, 2010
Despite losses for Örebro and Halmstad, Alejandro Bedoya notched another assist and Michael Thomas got a start.

Helsingborg 2 - 1 Örebro

Early work from midfielder Christoffer Andersson carried Helsingborg to another win.

The 31-year-old started the scoring with a free kick in the 11th minute. The shot went over the Örebro wall and John Alvbåge was helpless to stop it from cruising into the corner.

Six minutes later Andersson's long pass from the left wing bounced in front of Rasmus Jönsson who finished with a quick right foot from the six-yard box.

The early goals belied Örebro's edge in possession through the first twenty minutes, an edge they couldn't maintain throughout the rest of the match.

With a half hour to go in the game, Bedoya helped score the third goal Helsingborg has conceded on the year.

Kim Olsen lobbed a short pass to Bedoya as the right midfielder was getting between the defense on the left side of the penalty area. Bedoya one-touched a cross to forward Paulinho Guara who knocked it in from close range.

Örebro could manage no further shots on target.

The match was punctuated when Samuel Wowoah was given a red card for bringing down May Mahlangu in defending a counterattack.

Helsingborg increased their lead over Malmö to five points at the top of the standings.

Their nine win and two draw record is the best start in the history of the league.

Örebro remain in third place, but with six win and five loss record, there is a pack of teams chasing close behind them.

Örebro plays host to one of their pursuers, Djurgårde,n on Sunday.

Kalmar 1- 0 Halmstad

Johann Smith's Kalmar got their second win of the season against a Halmstad squad that featured Ryan Miller at his usual right back and Michael Thomas at central midfield in a 4-5-1.

Halmstad's best chance came in the 16th minute when Etrit Berisha fired at goal and the Kalmar keeper was forced to make a save conceding a corner.

Midfielder Mikael Rosen forced Berisha back into action with a shot off the corner that ultimately went for nought.

Halmstad would manage just one shot for the rest of the game.

It took a 76th minute substitution of Abiola Dauda to finally inject some life into the match.

Abiola received a cross from Daniel Sobrense in the right side of the box and turned and fired home the goal.

Halmstad swapped out Thomas two minutes later for striker Anselmo.

Halmstad take on Häcken Sunday.
