Clint Dempsey made his 100th start for Fulham but the Europa League finalists were unable to finish their chances against Stoke City.

Roy Hodgeson fielded a strong team in the club's last outing at home, with only Damien Duff feeling any ill effects after being substituted at half time.

Dempsey had the best chance for Fulham, but could not beat Asmir Begovic late on.

The goal came with a bit of controversy that had Hodgeson furious on the sidelines, when Stoke's Tuncay Sanli had appeared to handle the ball.

Play continued and Ricardo Fuller's deflected cross fell to Matthew Etherington who smashed off the Fulham woodwork and into the back of the next in the 83rd.

Stoke leapfrogged Fulham into the top half of the Premier League, and Fulham will need to find magic somewhere if they want to take points off of Arsenal on the final day this weekend.

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, ladies and gentlemen, but Michael Orozco will start for the US men's national team in Jacksonville.
