PREVIEW: AUXERRE - RENNES
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
Thursday, February 11, 2010
It will be a battle of Brittany versus Burgundy on Sunday when Carlos Bocanegra and Rennes face off against Auxerre in Ligue 1 action at Stade l'Abbé-Deschamps in Auxerre.

Bocanegra is expected to start at left back for the visitors who will try to avoid any hangover following their shocking midweek Coupe de France loss to fourth division Quevilly.

The result against the Championnat de France Amateur club had many Bretons scratching their heads in bewilderment considering that Rennes handily defeated league leaders Bordeaux just three days prior.

Head coach Frederic Antonetti was quick to put on a brave face following the upset loss and quickly turned his squad's attention to this weekend's affair.

Antonetti will surely be calling on playmakers Sylvain Marveaux, Ismael Bangoura and Asamoah Gyan to return the club to its attacking ways when they scored 12 goals in a span of three matches leading up to the Quevilly defeat.

Auxerre currently sit in seventh place with 39 points, just one spot ahead of Les Rouges Et Noirs in the table. The hosts saved face in their own midweek Coupe de France contest when they easily dispatched third division Plabennec 4-0.

That win came on the heels of a 5-0 loss to last place Grenoble, a result that will register as one of the most stunning scores this year in Ligue 1.

Despite the lopsided defeat to Grenoble, the only club to have never been relegated from France's first division has defied the experts this season in making a run towards a spot in Europe next year.

Auxerre will have to do without Adama Coulibaly who is sidelined with a knee injury and Julien Quercia who is out with a thigh strain.

Fabien Lemoine is hobbled by a sore ankle but is still expected to be available for Rennes.
