Lawrence Smith is still looking for a new team for the new year after trialing with Turun Palloseura, a Veikkausliiga team based in Turku.

"He played only one friendly match here in TPS, but he won't continue his career here in Turku," Heikki Möttönen the team's press officer summed up to YA.

The South Carolina native spent last season with Vaasan Palloseura, also of the Veikkausliiga, notching three goals in 22 appearances.

With his future still uncertain, Smith is relying on old contacts to keep in shape in the hope that something will turn up in the top flight.

"I have been training with my old team KPV in the Ykkonen," Smith said. "But I am still not sure what I am going to do."

After playing most of last season with VPS as a striker Smith has switched to preventing goals instead of scoring them. "I am playing central defense now," the former Charleston Battery man confirmed.

"I hope some teams will be in need of a defender."

"The team situations are pretty bad in Finland and if I could find another team somewhere else I would go."
