RICH FIDLER - Sunday, December 13, 2009
Helmond Sport went on the road Friday evening and drew with AGOVV Apeldoorn despite playing down a man for the last 31 minutes.
American Charles Kazlauskas lined up on the right side of midfield and went the full 90 minutes.
Helmond's Marc Höcher snuck behind the defense midway through the first half, but his shot skipped just wide of the far post with a chance to put the visitors ahead.
The second half started off poorly when leading scorer Johan Voskamp received a yellow in the 50th minute. Nine minutes later he picked up a second for a tackle from behind, earning the red card and automatic ejection from the game.
Striker Hans van de Haar nearly put the home team ahead following the ejection, but his right-footed blast was pushed just wide of the post by goalkeeper Robert Van Westerop.
Helmond Sport's Bruno Fernandes de Brito dribbled in to the area with just minutes to go, but before he could get his shot off, the Apeldoorn defense was able to get a toe to it and clear it out of bounds.
Helmond will head home to face BV Veendam on Friday night.
