RICH FIDLER - Monday, June 8, 2009
Head coach Bob Bradley has named his 23-man roster for 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, slated to start next week in South Africa, home of the 2010 World Cup.

The former Chicago Fire head coach didn't stray far from the roster that was brought together before the latest two World Cup Qualifying games that had drastically different outcomes - a 3-1 loss on the road to Costa Rica and a 2-1 home victory against Honduras.

The American team, which traveled to South Africa on Monday, will kick off the action on June 15th against defending World Cup champion Italy. Following that tough match-up the Red, White and Blue will face Brazil just three days later at the same Loftus Versfeld in Tshwane/Pretoria.

They'll wrap up ground play against African champions Egypt at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on June 21st.

The MLS duo of midfielder Ricardo Clark and striker Conor Casey replaced injured midfielder Maurice Edu and regular starting striker Brian Ching in the final 23 announced by US Soccer on Sunday evening. Edu and Ching were both replaced during the qualifying matches with a knee and hamstring injury respectively.

Luis Robles, who hails from Fort Huachuca, Arizona and plays his club ball in Germany for second-division Kaiserslauternis the only player on the roster who has yet to see the field for the American's senior team. Marvell Wynne and Jose Francisco Torres, with three five appearances respectively, also show relative youth on Bradley's roster.

The US last appeared in the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup in France when they fell to 2-1 to Turkey and 1-0 to Brazil to open the tournament before drawing scoreless with African champions Cameroon.
