US Under-18 midfielder Andrew Giallombardo has been cleared to sign a youth contract with Championship club Southampton.

"The club has just received international clearance to sign Andrew on a scholarship," team representative Tim Orme confirmed to YA. "He has [now] been registered for the FA Youth Cup."

Southampton have a history of bringing future stars up through the youth ranks, with former England internationals such as Alan Shearer, Wayne Bridge, and Theo Walcott all coming through the youth structure in Southampton.

Giallombardo, 17, was a three-semester Bradenton Residency Program member before leaving program prior to the Spring 2006 class.

The 5' 8" Manalapan, New Jersey native could make an immediate debut when the Saints face Stockport County in a rescheduled match on December 12th.
