Reading keeper Marcus Hahnemann doesn't have a favorite to replace departed US manager Bruce Arena, but admits to wondering if it wouldn't be best to select an American option.

USSF officials have reportedly interviewed about a half dozen options, including multiple European coaches.

"I don't know," shrugged Hahnemann. "You have to look at who is the best qualified."

"Bruce did a great job with the team in the past, so you wonder if you could get another American guy to step in - that would be good, but if you can only get a foreign guy, then it's a foreign guy."

"If you look at England as a country, you have enough English managers that you should be able to find a good English manager for an English team," he told YA. "I don't think they should look anywhere outside of England."

Hahnemann isn't certain that MLS-based choices like Bob Bradley (Chivas USA), Peter Nowak (DC United) and Frank Yallop (Los Angeles) have enough experience, but believes someone with a connection to the States would have a competitive advantage.

The latter two are not American, but are acclimated to the US soccer scene, as are supposed European targets Jürgen Klinsmann (ex-Germany coach) and Carlos Queiroz (Manchester United #2 to Sir Alex Ferguson).

"The one thing is we are a bit different, Americans," said Hahnemann. "Bruce knew that and the man-management side of things was really brilliant, so we'll have to see."

As for their lack of international matches at the moment, the netminder predicts the schedule will get a game when the new man is chosen.

"We don't have a manager, so you can't really have a game without a manager, can you?" offered Hahnemann. "I think our next game will be in January."
