Marcus Hahnemann says that Reading are still finding their feet in the Premiership, despite sitting a creditable eighth after four games.
"We're not quite sure of things," the Royals goalkeeper told YA. "Everything's a little bit foreign to us in the Premier League. It is only our fourth game, so we have not played many teams yet."
The Seattle native kept his first clean sheet in the top flight in Monday's 1-0 defeat of Manchester City and the Royals' top half standing contrasts with the other two teams promoted from the Championship, Sheffield United and Watford, who sit in the bottom three.
Despite a rousing entry to the Premiership when they came back from two goals down to beat Middlesbrough 3-2, Reading then lost their next two games, away at Wigan and Bolton, equaling their total of defeats from all of last season.
"The opening day win now seems like ages away. We played well at Villa, but then the sending off changed things as we went from 1-0 up to 1-1 with 10 men," Hahnemann explained, referring to Ibrahima Sonko's expulsion. "Up to that point we had been all over them, but decent sides capitalize on ten men."
"At Wigan, we did not play well but still almost got a result. Leets (Leroy Lita) had a one-on-one at the end and Kirkland made a save from it, so we almost got a point even playing badly. I don't think we are doing anything wrong."
The Royals continue their Premiership progress at Sheffield United on Saturday and face the awesome test of league leaders Manchester United a week later at the Madejski - but Hahnemann is confident his team will soon feel more comfortable in their new surroundings.
"We've got six points now from four games and I think we're all happy with that," concluded the netminder. "We just need to get a win away. Once we get that, we will be alright."
