HOLMES RETURNS TO HUDDERSFIELD
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
DAVID SMITH - Tuesday, January 26, 2021
Duane Holmes has returned to where his soccer career first started as it was announced that he has signed with Huddersfield Town from Derby County.

It was not revealed how much the Terriers paid to bring back the midfielder, but he has signed a contract that runs until 2024.

It's a return to a familiar environment for the 26-year-old as the initial stages of his professional career started at the Huddersfield Academy. He would go on to make 26 appearances for the first team before moving on to Scunthorpe United, which played in League One.

Now, it has all come full circle for the English-American as he looks to play a bigger role as Huddersfield.

"Obviously, I'm buzzing. This club means so much to me," said Holmes in an interview with Huddersfield Town TV. "I grew up here and I still feel like I've got so much to give to this football club. I'm happy that I've got the chance to do it. I'm really looking forward to working with the head coach."

Holmes made the headlines in August 2019 when Frank Lampard brought Holmes from Scunthorpe to Derby County. He would eventually work his way into the starting lineup. However, injuries would haunt him for portions of his time with the Rams.

With playing time coming hard to come in addition to being played out of position, Derby decided to let the player go as his contract was set to expire this summer.

The move back to Huddersfield has brought some joy to Holmes and he hopes to be an influence on the team as they look to move up the standings.

"I think I've matured a lot, both as a footballer and as a person," he said.

"Hopefully I've not changed too much, I still want to be an exciting player to watch and stuff like that! I want to bring goals to the team, and I want to help the team out in any way I can."

Holmes will have his first chance to play for Huddersfield when they welcome Stoke City to the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.
