RECAP: WEEKEND FRENCH ACTION
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
KENYA BROWN - Sunday, December 6, 2020
Only two of the three Americans in France saw any action as Nicholas Gioacchini was instrumental in Caen securing a point, while Tim Weah came off the bench in Lille's victory.

Caen 1-1 Grenoble Foot 38

Nicholas Gioacchini put in a full shift for Caen as the Vikings fought back from a goal down at the half, ending the 90 minutes with a share of the spoils at Michel d'Omano Stadium.

The first goal of the game came very early, in the 11th minute as a matter of fact, after an inch perfect long ball from Mamadou Dialli, who saw his French teammate, Yoric Ravet making the forward run. The Senegalese forward skipped past a defender just inside the attacking half of the field and launched the ball to Ravet, who latched onto it just outside the 18-yard box. He took a touch and blasted it over the head of Rémy Riou in the Caen goal.

It would take until a half-hour of the second half was played before the hosts would get back into the game. Although not able to score a goal himself, Gioacchini won the penalty that Yoann Court converted in the 76th minute. It was the second draw at home for Caen, so they are still undefeated in their own stadium.

They'll play again at home this Saturday afternoon and are likely to face a much tougher opponent in first place ESTAC Troyes as the American will be looking to add to his three club goals.

Notes

Tim Weah came off the bench in the 69th minute with Lille up 2-0 over Monaco. The team from the Principality did however get a consolation goal in the 90th minute but it was too little, too late. The team that nestles the Belgian border still sits in the second spot, just a pair of points behind PSG after 13 games. Next up will be a midweek game up in Scotland to take on Celtic in Europa League action. They'll then return to the continent where they'll take on Bordeaux at home.

Patrick Koffi did not suit up as first place Paris FC took on second place Troyes. The Parisians lost 2-1, so fell down to second place. They'll have a chance to get back on top when they welcome penultimate placed Rodez to the French capital.
