Matt Miazga will spend another season out on loan as it was announced on Saturday that Chelsea has sent the center-back to Belgium to play for Anderlecht.

The 25-year-old has found it hard to break into Chelsea's first team since making two appearances for them in the 2015-2016 English Premier League season. Since that time he has been sent out on loan on five previous occasions.

Anderlecht, the most decorated team in Belgium‘s top flight, see the signing of Miazga as good business as they hope to reclaim their position at the top of the league.

"Matt can win duels, but also has pace and technique. A combination that is hard to find and one we always look for in a central defender, as we want to keep playing our own style of football, said Anderlecht's sporting director Peter Verbeke. "Matt has played in the Dutch Eredivisie, where he has won the Cup with Vitesse, the French Ligue 1 and the Championship. He's 25 and has the necessary experience. Now it's Matt's turn to bring some extra competition to our defense."

Miazga's previous loan has had varying degrees of success.

The New Jersey native had his most successful period in Holland when he played for Vitesse for two seasons. In his time playing in the Eredivisie he established himself as the first-choice center-back, helping his team to their first piece of silverware when they won the Dutch Cup in 2017. He then played a big role in helping them earn a spot in the Europa League in the 2017-2018 season.

Miazga was then sent out on loan to France where he played with Ligue 1 team Nantes. While it was supposed to be a season-long loan, it ended abruptly after losing his place following the appointment of then coach Vahid Halilhodzic.

The former New York Red Bull would get back on his feet in January 2019 when he was sent back out on loan again. This time he remained in England where he played for Championship team Reading. His loan would be extended for the 2019-2020 season.

Miazga could see action for Anderlecht in the following weekend when they take on OH Leuven.
