Sergino Dest's debut for Ajax's first team came out on a positive note as the team came away with a 2-0 win over PSV Eindhoven to secure the Dutch Super Cup.
Dest, who has come up through the Ajax youth system and signed his first professional contract with the team a few months ago, got the start for the reigning Eredivisie champions and played the entire 90 minutes.
Despite losing the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt in the summer transfer window, it looks like the capital team is not going to miss a beat this coming season, and it showed in the curtain-raiser.
The league champs opened the scoring with seconds of the start. Donny van de Beek would run onto a through-ball before crossing it into the area for Kasper Dolberg steered the ball past PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet an into the back of the net.
The game was a bit testy for a time, but Ajax would go on to double their lead in the 53rd minute when Daley Bind's shot from the edge of the are flew past the outstretched hand of Zoet and into the goal.
Ajax were in complete control of the game and should of had a third goal in the 75th minute when Dest received the ball in the area fired a blistering shot towards goal. However, it came crashing off the post.
Overall, it was a good performance by Dest in his debut, and hopefully it could lead to further appearances with the first team as the season gets underway.
