KLINSMANN SIGNS WITH ST. GALLEN
KENYA BROWN - Wednesday, June 19, 2019
Jonathan Klinsmann will be playing next season in the Swiss Super League as it was announced on Tuesday that he has signed with FC St. Gallen from Germany's Hertha Berlin.
The team announced that the 6-4 netminder has agreed to a two-year contract.
Klinsmann would sign with Hertha Berlin in July 2017 while in the midst of a 10-day tryout. However, he would find it hard to break into the first team as he spent most of his time playing for the Under-23 team. He did receive his sole senior appearance in December 2017 in the capital team's 1-1 tie with Sweden's Ostersunds FK in the UEFA Europa League.
With his contract set to come to end this month, the California-native was in search for a team where he would have the chance to challenge for the starting spot. There was speculation in the media that Scottish Premier League team Rangers had shown interest, but St. Gallen would win out in the end.
In addition to earning playing time with the Swiss team, Klinsmann will also work to gain inclusion into the United States Under-23 Men's National Team as they pursue qualification for the 2020 Olympics.
