John Brooks and Wolfsburg will play in the Bundesliga next season following their as they were able to withstand second division Holstein Kiel to win the pro/rel playoff.
Holstein Kiel 0-1 Wolfsburg (Wolfsburg win 4-1 on aggregate)
A a second-half goal from Robin Knoche was enough to help Wolfsburg guarentee their Bundesliga status for next season as they defeated Holstein Kiel at Holstein-Stadion on Monday.
Brooks started the game for the Wolves in the win.
After securing a 3-1 win in the first leg, Wolfsburg had to make sure it would stick as they headed to to Kiel, where their supporters tried to make the atmosphere as itimidating as possible.
The visitors started the game with the first chance at goal as Felix Uduokhai heading his shot wide of the goal. Kiel responed at the other end when Marvin Duksch hooked his shot wide of the mark. Aaron Seydel then took a crack for the host in 13th minute, but it also went wide.
Wolfsburg then believed they had opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Yunus Malli buried the ball in th back of the net, but after a review from the Video Assistant Referee showed that Divock Origi was offside and obstructed Kiel goalkeeper Kenneth Kronholm's view.
Kiel then had a goal called back in the 37th minute, but the referee judged that Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels had been fouled.
The host started the second half the more aggressive of the two teams as Ducksch tested Casteels before the goalkeeper made another save to clear away an effort from Seydel.
Wolfsburg then ended any threats the host made in the 75th minute when Knoche was able to shake off his marker to head in a Max Arnold corner kick. It was only goal of the season and one that the Wolfsburg supporters will certainly remember.
With their Bundesliga status guaranteed for next season, Wolfsburg will most likely be working hard during the summer transfer window to make sure this does not happen again.
