Andrija Novakovich scored again to help Telstar maintain their place in the playoff spots in the Dutch Eerste Divisie as he now enters the US national team picture.
Andrija Novakovich's performances have earned him his first callup to a US national team camp and he proved why he deserved it as he scored his 18th goal of the season in Telstar's 1-1 tie with Go Ahead Eagles at De Adelaarshorst.
The host opened the scoring in the 18th minute from a corner kick when Givan Werkhoven put away his shot from close range. His first effort was saved by Telstar goalkeeper Rody de Boer, but the rebound came back to the forward and he made sure his second chance went in.
Bruno Andrade came very close to doubling Go Ahead Eagles' lead in the 21st minute, but his shot from outside the area trickled just wide of the goal.
Novakovich was very active throughout the game and had a chance to level the score in the 37th minute, but could not get his foot on the ball to redirect an effort from teammate Jerdy Schouten.
Telstar started the second half aggressively and Novakovich finally got his goal in the 48th minute as he was released by Anass Najah with a through ball and the forward got his shot past goalkeeper Sonny Stevens.
Both sides pushed for more goals, but their efforts would come to nothing as the game ended in a tie.
Telstar sits in fourth place in the standings with 52 points.
