KENYA BROWN - Tuesday, January 23, 2018
Midfielder Weston McKennie will be out of action for up to six weeks as German Bundesliga team announced that he suffered a knee injury during their game against Hannover over the weekend.
The 19-year-old had entered the game in the second half and went down after 20 minutes following a collision with Hannover's Felix Klaus.
The Royal Blues confirmed the news of the injury after McKennie underwent an examination with doctors.
"We can confirm that @WMcKennie partially ruptured the MCL in his right knee in #S04H96 yesterday. He'll be sidlined for around six months," Schalke tweeted on Monday.
The Texas native, who joined the team in August 2016, worked his way up to the first team following strong performances with the academy team. He made his debut with the first team last May in their 1-1 tie with Ingolstadt.
Following a full recovery, McKennie could see jump right back into contention for a midfield spot as teammate Leon Goretzka is set to move to Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.
