KENYA BROWN - Friday, October 20, 2017
Matt Miazga and Vitesse earned their first point in the Europa League group stage after their game with Zulte Waregem in Belgium ended in a tie.

Zulte Waregem 1-1 Vitesse

Thomas Bruns scored the equalizer for Vitesse to recover from an own goal as the Dutch team claimed their first point in their Europa League campaign at the Regenboogstadion.

Miazga took up his place in central defense for the game.

Both sides had good opportunities to score early in the first half. Vitesse's Bryan Linssen cross into the area reached forward Luc Castaignos, but Zulte Waregem goalkeeper Louis Bostyn made the stop to prevent a certain goal. Sandy Walsh came close to scoring at the other end, but his headed effort bounced wide of the goal.

Vitesse found themselves down a goal in the 23rd minute when Guram Kashia headed the ball into his own goal following a corner Waregem kick. The ball bounced off the back of the Georgian defender's head.

However, the visitors would tie the game four minutes later when Linssen passed the ball back to Bruns, who was standing at the edge of the area, and he fired his shot past Bostyn.

Vitesse sits in third place in Group K with one point.

Jonathan Klinsmann was on the bench for Hertha Berlin in their 2-1 loss to Ukraine's Zorya Luhansk.

Aaron Schoenfeld did not dress for Maccabi Tel Aviv as they suffered a 4-0 loss to Astana.
