KENYA BROWN - Monday, October 2, 2017
Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund continued their winning ways in the Bundesliga as they edged Augsburg after a tough loss in the midweek.

Augsburg 1-2 Borussia Dortmund

Goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Shinji Kagawa did the job as Borussia Dortmund left the WWK Arena with a narrow win to keep atop of the standings.

After a difficult loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League at the middle of the week, BVB were looking to continue their fine form in league play. But they had the unenviable task of heading to Bavaria to claim the three points.

The visitors got things going early as Yarmolenko scored in the fourth minute of play with a backheeled strike into the goal following a corner kick.

However, Augsburg leveled the score seven minutes later when Caiuby headed the ball past Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki after a cross from teammate Philipp Max.

BVB did not have to wait too long to retake the lead when Kagawa finished a play from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Yarmolenko with a beautiful chip over the head of Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz.

Dortmund pushed for a third goal and should have gotten it on two occasions in the second half. Pulisic sent in a brilliant cross for Aubameyang but is headed effort fell right into the hands of Hitz. The Gabon international then had an excellent chance from a penalty but his attempt to score with a "Panenka" was grabbed by Hitz.

Despite some pressure from Augsburg late in the game, BVB walked away with the win in the end.

Dortmund now has 19 points which put them five clear of second place Bayern Munich.
