KENYA BROWN - Sunday, August 6, 2017
Daniel Schmidt and Vegalta Sendai had a rough time with their opponents and the weather in their loss to Kashima Antlers in J1 League action over the weekend.

Kashima Antlers 2-0 Vegalta Sendai

Goals in both halves helped Kashima Antlers to a win over Vegalta Sendai at the Kashima Soccer Stadium, pushing closer to a relegation battle with the bottom three in the standings.

Both teams pushed for the opening goal in the first half, but neither could find the breakthrough.

Then things got a bit interesting as fog began to build up in the stadium, making it literally impossible for the players to see the ball. This forced the referee to bring out the orange ball and play went on afterwards.

Kashima eventually broke the deadlock before halftime when Shoma Doi took a pass from teammate Atsutaka Nakamura, made a run into the area and blasted his shot past Schmidt.

Play continued through the harsh conditions and Kashima were the ones with the advantage as they went on to seal the game in the well into stoppage time. Mu Kanazaki chipped a pass to Yuma Suzuki and his half-volley shot got by Schmidt.

The loss leaves Sendai in 13th place in the standings with 22 points, six points away from the relegation zone.
