ARENA PICKS 23 FOR FRIENDLIES

EXTRA TIME
KENYA BROWN - Saturday, January 28, 2017
US national team head coach Bruce Arena has trimmed down his roster to 23 players ahead of their two friendlies against Serbia and Jamaica.

This will be the first time the team will play since getting their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a rocky start last year.

Sebastian Lletget and Chris Pontius, Walker Zimmerman and Jorge Villafana have made the team and could earn their first caps. On the other end, Sunday's game could be a milestone for Jozy Altidore as he is in line to earn his 100th cap for the team. This would put him among players such as Cobi Jones, Claudio Reyna, Clint Dempsey and DaMarcus Beasley who have reached this achievement.

The MLS-laden team will look to build on things they worked on during the January camp as they continue prepartions for the re-start of the World Cup qualifiers in March.

"I have been extremely pleased by everything we have seen throughout the January Camp," Arena said in a statement on the US Soccer website. "The performance by the players actually made these decisions pretty difficult, which is a great sign for us moving forward. Even though it's preseason, they have shown really well. Now after two weeks of training, we are excited to take the next step and face a good team in San Diego."

The US will take on Serbia in San Diego, California, on Sunday before heading to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to face Jamaica on February 3.
