RECAP: WEEKEND DUTCH LEAGUE ACTION
EXTRA TIME
KENYA BROWN - Sunday, January 22, 2017
In the all-American battle between Matt Miazga and Desevio Payne, Vitesse and Groningen would go on to share the points in their Dutch league encounter.

Groningen 1-1 Vitesse

Vitesse went down to 10 men, but was able to hold for the tie against Groningen at the Noordlease Stadium.

Miazga entered the game in the second half for Vitesse while Payne watched all of the action from the bench after starting and scoring a goal for the team last weekend.

Groningen started out the stronger of the two teams in the first half and was rewarded with a goal in the sixth minute. Frederik Jenssen's shot took a deflection off Vitesse defender Kelvin Leerdam and ended up in the back of the net.

Navarone Foor would level score four minutes into the second half as he put away a cross from teammate Milot Rashica into the bottom corner of the goal.

It proved difficult for either team to find another goal, but Vitesse would find themselves at a disadvantage in the 86th minute when Foor was shown a red card for his challenge on Juninho Bacuna.

Vitesse remain in seventh place in the standings with 27 points while Groningen drop to 10th with 24 points.

Notes

In Eerste Divisie, Shane O'Neill started for NAC Breda in their 2-0 win over Achilles '29.

Rubio Rubin started as Utrecht II suffered a 3-0 beating at the hands of Dordrecht.
