DAVID SMITH - Friday, September 26, 2014
The pairings for the third round of the Danish Cup were announced on Friday afternoon, pitting the only two remaining teams with Americans against each other in an all-second division matchup.
The third round sees the entry of all top-flight teams into the field of 32 teams, however both Hellerup IK and Odder IGF, each of which competes in the third tier of Danish soccer avoided being drawn into a David versus Goliath situation.
Hellerup and Odder, two of the flock of remaining third-tier sides left in the competition, were drawn to face each other in the late-October third round.
Hellerup IK features 27 year-old American midfielder Anton Peterlin, while Odder recently signed former SMU Mustang Eddie Puskarich to a contract for the remainder of the fall.
Both teams took care of business against lower-division sides in the second round during the midweek. Hellerup left no questions in their 5-1 demolition of eighth-tier team Gilleleje while Odder had a much closer call, squeaking by fourth-level side Lyseng by a 2-1 margin.
Both Hellerup and Odder compete in the third level of the Danish soccer pyramid, although they do not face each other in the regular seasons as they are situated in different divisions.
Exact dates are yet to be set, however most games in the round will be played on October 28 and 29.
