BRANDON WIGGINS - Monday, August 11, 2014
Alejandro Bedoya helped FC Nantes open up their Ligue 1 season with a win over newly-promoted RC Lens.
Nantes scored the one and only goal of the match in the 65th minute when forward Yacine Bammou struck from inside the penalty box thanks to a cross from Johan Audel.
Bedoya started and went 88 minutes in the central attacking midfield position in Nantes' 4-2-3-1 formation. It is a position Bedoya played at regularly last season with Nantes.
The American was a big part of the club's success last season, finishing his first year in Ligue 1 as Nantes' third-leading scorer with five goals and providing his usual terrific defensive work rate.
Nantes will need him even more this season after being hit with a harsh transfer ban and losing last season's leading scorer, Filip Djordjevic, to Serie A club Lazio. The transfer ban is a harsh blow for a club that finished last season in 13th place and will likely have to fight for survival again this year.
Bedoya and Nantes will head on the road next weekend to take on another new member of Ligue 1, recently promoted FC Metz.
