Plagued by knee woes during the second half of the season, Reading and US midfielder Danny Williams will undergo surgery in an attempt to return to health to start next season.

Williams, 25, earned rave reviews for his play this season for Reading but he missed significant time due to various injuries. At the end of the season, Reading narrowly missed out on the promotional playoffs.

Injuries have also forced Williams out of the national team picture. In 2013, he fell out of favor early in the Hexagonal World Cup qualifying campaign and didn't receive a cap until this past March when he came on as a substitute in the U.S. team's 2-0 loss to Ukraine.
