The US U-20 team remained perfect at the Dallas Cup as it defeated Tigres on Wednesday night to advance to the semifinal.
After impressive wins over River Plate and Eintracht Frankfurt, the U.S. team needed only a draw to win its group and advance to the semifinals of the prestigious youth tournament. Boosted by the late arrival of New York Red Bulls' central defender Matt Miazga, the team entered into the game with momentum.
Also in the starting lineup was midfielder Lynden Gooch and right back Shaq Moore who both started all group stage games so far.
After controlling most of the first half, the Americans found the breakthrough in the 45th minute when Rubio Rubin received a nice pass from Moore and beat defenders on the dribble before firing an well placed shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the U.S. defense held firm and the team also had the better of the opportunities as it pushed for a second goal. With Tigres reduced to 10 players, Paul Arriola nearly scored the goal of the tournament with a 25 yard volley but his shot bounced off the crossbar.
With the win, the U.S. team will face Brazil's Fluminense on Friday night in the semifinals.
