Aron Johannsson found the back of the net again, but AZ were forced to settle for a tie against Juan Agudelo and FC Utrecht.
AZ 1 - 1 FC Utrecht
Aron Johannsson once again got on the score sheet for AZ, who were able to dictate much of the game against Utrecht on Saturday, but Juan Agudelo's team were able to find an equalizer as the teams tied at AFAS Stadium.
Johannsson got the scoring started with a diving header in the 21st minute. Roy Beerens dribbled into the left side of the penalty area and sent a chip towards the near post for Johannsson who sold out to get his head on the end of it for his 14th league goal this season.
While Johannsson highlighted the early proceedings, Agudelo was isolated up top and found it difficult to stamp his mark on the game.
Jens Toornstra knotted the score in the 55th minute with a stunning free kick. The midfielder curled a right footed effort past AZ goalie Esteban Alvarado into the upper left corner from 20 yards to make the score 1-1.
Minutes later, Agudelo had a chance to put Utrecht in front after intercepting an errant back pass, but the former New England Revolution striker tripped up after rounding Alvarado.
AZ stay in seventh place with the draw, while Utrecht move down are one spot above the relegation zone in 15th place after the weekend.
AZ take on Slovan Liberec on Thursday in the Europa League, while Utrecht take on Groningen next Sunday in the Eredivisie.
Helmond Sport 3 - 1 FC Oss
Charles Kazlauskas played the whole game for Helmond Sport as they trumped FC Oss at Lavans Stadium.
A pair of goals from Koen Weuts and Serhat Koc gave the hosts a commanding first-half lead. First, Weuts got on the end of a Jeffrey van Nuland cross in the 37th minute to put the hosts ahead. Shortly afterwards Andreas Luckermans fed Koc a pass which allowed the striker to score his tenth goal of the season.
FC Oss bit back into the lead in the 85th minute through Guyon Phillips. A Ryan Sanusi shot ricochetted off the post right back to an onrushing Phillips who sent it home for his ninth goal of the year.
Davy Brouwers solidified the score line for Helmond two minutes into added time. Koc fed his fellow striker, giving Brouwers a wide open opportunity that he netted for his team leading thirteenth goal of the year.
Helmond move up to eighth with the win, while Oss are buried at the bottom of the standings at 20th place.
Helmond and Oss are both off until next Saturday when Helmond face Willem II and Oss host Telstar.
