RECAP: HERACLES 2 - 0 AZ

BRANDON WIGGINS - Monday, December 16, 2013
Aron Johannsson and AZ continued their poor string of results on Sunday, falling to Heracles on the road.

Bryan Linssen opened the scoring for Heracles in the 11th minute. The young attacker wove his way through the AZ backline before netting past AZ goalie Esteban Alvarado.

AZ responded by creating numerous chances on the other end, but were remarkably ineffective taking them. 16 of AZ's 22 shots were off target on the afternoon. Johannsson was able to crack a shot on net, but he couldn't beat Remko Passver in the Heracles net.

The home team were able to re-establish control in the second half, and finally grabbed their insurance goal five minutes into stoppage time. Oussama Tannane scored his third goal in the last two games to ensure the victory for the home team.

AZ have now lost three Eredivisie games in a row, dropping them all the way down to eighth place in the league. They face Heerenveen twice next week, in the KNVB Cup on Wednesday and in the Eredivisie on Saturday.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
