WHITBREAD JOINS DERBY ON LOAN

EXTRA TIME
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, September 30, 2013
Leicester City's American central defender Zak Whitbread is heading on loan and will join Derby County for three months.

"Zak has joined us for three months," a representative at Derby told YA on Monday.

During his career, Whitbread has played for Millwall, Norwich, and Leicester. When healthy, he has usually started but injuries have plagued his career from the start. Eligible for both the U.S and England internationally, Whitbread has played for the U.S youth teams but has never played for the senior team.

Whitbread, 29, has played in four games so far this season for Leicester in all competitions. Derby currently sit in 14th place in the Championship while Leicester are near the top at third.

Will be interesting to see how Zak progresses at Derby. Hopefully he will be positive influence and difference for his club, and thereby also bring himself into USMNT center back consideration. USMNT center back situation is still very open, and yet to be clarified and settled for Brazil next June.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
