BRIAN SCIARETTA - Thursday, September 12, 2013
After winning the Gold Cup and surging to first place in CONCACAF's Hexagonal World Cup qualifying tournament, the U.S national team has risen to 13 in the latest FIFA ranking.

The new ranking represents a significant six place jump from 19th place which it previously held. The rise in rankings was easy to see after the U.S team in 2013 enjoyed a 12 game winning streak including wins over Bosnia, Germany, and a coast through the Gold Cup.

The streak was snapped on the road against Costa Rica on Friday but the U.S quickly rebounded with a convincing 2-0 win over archrival Mexico on Tuesday. The Mexican team has struggled mightily in 2013 and fell to 21st in the new rankings.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
