ALTIDORE SUFFERS HAMSTRING INJURY
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Saturday, August 31, 2013
Jozy Altidore was not in the matchday 18 for Sunderland on Saturday due to a hamstring injury that has jeopardized his availability for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Sunderland announced the injury via twitter before kickoff and a source close to the player verified it to YA. Sunderland went on to lose to Crystal Palace 3-1.

It is unclear how much time he is set to miss but YA has learned that, regardless of the injury, Altidore will travel to the United States to be with the national team. The United States will play Costa Rica on Friday and Mexico on Tuesday in important Word Cup qualifiers.

Should Altidore be ruled out of the games, he could be replaced by Chris Wondolowski or Terrence Boyd.

Altidore is coming of a solid performance on Thursday in the League Cup where he scored his first goal for Sunderland in a 4-2 win over MK Dons.

For once I'm not totally worried. Obviously Altidore makes us 10 times better but we have so many other quality attackers that I think we'll be just fine. Plus we have The Iceman now.
