DAVID SMITH - Monday, April 8, 2013
Brian Span and Djurgarden have the simplest path to the Swedish Cup final, as their semifinal opponent was confirmed with Monday evening's draw.

Span was in the Djurgarden starting lineup in last week's semifinal at Norrköping, a game which ended scoreless after 120 minutes, but was won in the end on penalties by the guests.

For their resilience, the Blue Stripes have been awarded with perhaps the most desirable opponent left in the competition, second-tier Örgryte IS.

Örgryte also won on the road to reach the semifinal, however they didn't have to work quite as hard in their 1-0 victory over fellow Superettan team Falkenbergs FF.

Djurgarden will undoubtedly be considered the heavy favorites against their lower division guests. They will be wary, however, as their foes did beat two of their three Allsvenskan opponents in the group stage.

Djurgarden will be hopeful of reaching an eighth Swedish Cup final, where they would face either Östers or Göteborg. Örgryte and by no means without their own successes in the competition, having won in 2000 and finishing runners-up two years before.

Having played in his team's last four Cup games, Span has a strong chance to earn a third start in the competition amidst the team's otherwise busy league schedule.

Both semifinals are set to be played on Wednesday, May 1.
