JOHN KRETLOW - Thursday, April 4, 2013
England's lower leagues were in the spotlight this week as Zak Whitbread and Leicester City continue their fall down the standings and Frank Simek's Carlisle United drew with Sheffield United.

Barnsley 2 - 0 Leicester City

Zak Whitbread was back in action but was unable to help Leicester City as they went down to Barnsley.

Whitbread went the distance for the Foxes.

The loss for Leicester is their third in a row in league action. They trail Brighton & Hove Albion by two points for the last playoff position in the Championship.

Barnsley got on the board early as Scott Wiseman's strong cross was knocked in by Leicester's own Michael Keane for the own goal in the fourth minute.

Chris O'Grady then doubled Barnsley's lead in the 40th minute with a demoralizing goal before halftime.

The Foxes have just won once in their last ten games and have fallen down the standings after a winless March. They look to get back to winning ways next week when they play Brighton & Hove Albion.

Sheffield United 0 - 0 Carlisle United

Frank Simek and Carlisle United managed a scoreless draw against Sheffield United.

The American defender played the full 90 minutes for the Cumbrians.

Carlisle held tough in the final minutes of the game, as Sean O'Hanlon was sent off with 16 minutes left to play.

The Cumbrians came closest opportunity came in the 44th minute when Liam Noble's rocket went off the crossbar.

United nearly got on the board when Joe Ironside set up Jonathan Forte in front of goal, but the forward's shot went wide.

Carlisle is seven points above the relegation zone with five games left in the season. The Cumbrians take on Oldham Athletic next week.
