Carlos Bocanegra finally saw some action for relegation-destined Racing while Oguchi Onyewu remained inactive for Malaga in their victory.

Elche 0 - 0 Racing Santander

Carlos Bocanegra returned to the Racing Santander lineup as the struggling Highlanders were able to overcome high flying Elche, and settled for a hard-fought point in a scoreless draw.

Santander remain in 21st position with 32 points and are squarely in the relegation zone after Sunday's draw with league leading Elche. Santander face a tough road match next week when they travel to second placed Alcorcón.

Bocanegra received a yellow card in his return on Sunday after recently being relegated to the substitute bench.

The Highlanders had numerous chances on Sunday and controlled the possession for much of the game, but were unable to beat Elche keeper Manu Herrera, who was solid throughout.

Elche has never lost in El Sardinero and continued their impressive streak. New manager Alejandro Menendez will look to overtake Huesca and Hércules and finally be clear of relegation.

Notes

Oguchi Onyewu was an unused substitute as Málaga beat Rayo Vallecano 3-1.

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, ladies and gentlemen, but Michael Orozco will start for the US men's national team in Jacksonville.
