Freddy Adu is on the cusp of signing a contract with Brazilian club Sporting Club Bahia for what will be the ninth team of his professional career.

Adu, 23, was most recently playing for the Philadelphia Union, but a falling out with the team has left him out of action since last season.

Earlier in the day, Union head coach John Hackworth told the media at his press conference that the deal was complicated and that in exchange for letting Adu sign with Bahia, Philadelphia would get former Brazil international Kleberson on loan.

But Bahia seemed more confident on Wednesday by revealing that a physical examination was set and that deal was close.

"Freddy Adu arrives in Salvador, Bahia's capital, on Thursday," Bahia press officer Vitor Tamar told YA on Wednesday. "The player has to know the city and, if approved medical examination, will sign a contract with Sporting Clube Bahia."

Adu began his professional career with DC United at age 14. Since then, he has played for Real Salt Lake, Benfica, AS Monaco, Belenenses, Aris Saloniki and Caykur Rizespor, followed by the Union.

Bahia is set to begin its 2013 season in Brazil's Serie A. The club finished 15th in the 20-team league in 2012.

Congrats Freddy! Not sure if anyone can name a significant US player to play 1st Division in Brazil in the recent past, but it's a perfect set-up to help him rejoin the USMNT again. It may not be Europe, but eons above the MLS. Coach K should use Freddy and Donovan on the wings with Bradley and Jones in the center of the midfield. Then Demps underneath Boyd or Jozy and this is our best chance of a 1st half goal. Drop Gomez, bring back Davies and keep Agudelo waiting in the wings. For our back four go back to Boca, Dolo, Chandler and Spector. Maybe use Gonzo, Lichaj orCameron, but stop tinkering with MLS quality players and go with our best. We can always go for a more defensive lineup later in the game, but we need to start scoring first and control games better especially against Concacaf teams.......I mean come on if we can't dominate in in Concacaf what's the point in discussing the WC?! When Freddy start's assisting and scoring in the land of the beautiful game our Coach won't be able to ignore him anymore. Go USA!!

Why does it appear Hackworth is still being a jackazz about the situation saying it's still complicated, while the Brazilians seem excited that the deal is just about done?
