MATT REMSBERG - Monday, March 11, 2013
Jose Francisco Torres' Tigres squad stayed unbeaten while Herculez Gomez stayed hot for Santos Laguna during Week 10 of Liga MX play.

Santos Laguna 2 - 1 Atlante

After going seven starts without a goal, Herculez Gomez now has three tallies in his last two games. This weekend, Gomez did his damage via the free kick, blasting home a low, curling drive with his right foot from 35 yards in the 43rd minute to open the scoring.

Gomez played the full 90 for Santos and picked up a yellow card, while Benji Joya and Daniel Cuevas did not make the bench. Santos (5-2-3) remained in fourth place with the victory, two points behind Club America and two points ahead of Pumas.

Santos will look to overturn a one-goal deficit when it hosts Houston Dynamo on Wednesday in a CONCACAF Champions League play. On Saturday, Gomez and Co. travel to second-place Atlas for a key Liga MX game.

San Luis 1 - 2 Tigres

Jose Francisco Torres and Tigres remained atop the table with a hard-fought victory over bottom-dwelling San Luis on Sunday.

Torres played 82 minutes in the victory, but Jonathan Bornstein and Victor Garza did not make the bench.

With the win, Tigres (7-0-3) remained one point ahead of second-place Atlas. The team travels to the Northwest US to face Seattle Sounders FC on Tuesday, carrying a 1-0 lead in their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series.

Puebla 0 - 1 Pumas

On Sunday, DaMarcus Beasley, Michael Orozco and Puebla suffered their second shutout defeat in five days to Pumas. After dropping a 3-0 result to Pumas on Wednesday in Copa MX play, an 89th-minute goal by Martin Bravo did in Puebla on Sunday.

Both Beasley and Orozco played the full 90 minutes as Puebla (4-4-2) fell three spots to 10th in the table.

Puebla will visit Pachuca on Saturday in a key mid-table battle.

Club Tijuana 0 - 1 Queretaro

Defender Greg Garza made his first start of the season for Club Tijuana, though it came in a losing effort. Garza picked up a yellow card in the 61st minute as the Xolos lost their second consecutive Liga MX game in the midst of their dream Copa Libertadores run.

Joe Corona did not make the bench for Tijuana, while Edgar Castillo missed out on the game recovering from surgery to repair facial fractures.

Despite dropping four of its past five league games, Tijuana remains in a tie for fifth place in the standings.

A week after knocking off reigning FIFA Club World Cup champion Corinthians, the Xolos will travel to Brazil for the rematch Wednesday in Copa Libertadores play.

Club America defender Ventura Alvarado was an unused substitute in his team's 1-1 tie with Morelia.
