ADO Den Haag loan defender Cory Gibbs reports that he is feeling himself again and has his fingers crossed for a first team debut when the club travel to RKC Waalwijk in 10 days' time.
The US backline ace is in the home stretch of a long recovery road, having not played since injuring his knee against England last May.
"I met with the physicians and trainers today," Gibbs told YA on Thursday evening. "I'm physically strong and back in form, but the plan is to sit out this weekend against Vitesse and get another 90 minutes with the Reserves on Monday."
The former Brown Bear says the physical part of his recuperation is basically over, and admitted that the waiting is now the hardest part.
"I'm right where I want to be," he declared. "I'm hungry and ready to play, but they want me to be patient and get more games under my belt. I've only had one game with 90 minutes (against Young Veendam), and then the 45 before that (against Young Go Ahead Eagles)."
"I'm just really eager to get back to playing. That's the most frustrating thing: I want to play."
Gibbs definitely has one eye on World Cup, yet isn't the least bit concerned about regaining his "A-game" before US coach Bruce Arena rings him up for an international return.
"I still have time," he said. "(ADO) are very happy with my character, I work really hard in training every day. Everybody's surprised that I've gotten my form back so quickly, but I'm not surprised because it is something I put my mind to."
"Bruce's decision is Bruce's decision. When he calls, I'll be ready."
