Erstwhile San Jose Earthquakes defender Danny Califf has agreed to terms with Danish top flight battlers Aalborg BK, where he will become the second active Superligaen Yank.

The Maryland native had five productive seasons with Los Angeles before enjoying a Supporters Shield campaign with MLS arch rivals San Jose in 2005.

"It's a two-and-a-half-year deal," AaB executive Lynge Jacobsen told YA on Friday. "He will come to Denmark (at the beginning of) January.

Aalborg resume league play in March, having closed the first half of the season by winning four of six to climb into fifth place.

The American's first chance to turn out in his new shirt could come when they resume Royal League play against FC Lyn in February.

Aab sit last in Group C with one point from two matches; the tournament is a showcase event for the top teams from Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

The club plan to plug Califf into their central defense mix as they fight for a UEFA Cup place with, among others, US teammate Heath Pearce and FC Nordsjælland.

"We expect him to be part of the team," assured Jacobsen. "I think he wil become an excellent player for us."
