CONVEY, HAHNEMANN TO MISS SCOTLAND
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
Saturday, November 5, 2005
Neither Bobby Convey nor Marcus Hahnemann will be making the trip to Glasgow to play Scotland in next Saturday's friendly international.

High-flying Reading's in form duo, who lined up together for the USA against Guatemala on September 7th, told YA today they will be missing from the National Team roster when it is announced on Monday.

Convey had hinted to YA on October 26th he would be an unlikely participant saying he wasn't sure he'd be able to go, as well as having team trainers wishing him to rest and today confirmed he wouldn't be a part Bruce Arena's squad.

"I am not going," Convey said, "because I hurt my groin and I pulled my calf in the last game as well so I am just going to be having a bit of treatment and watching the game on TV instead."

The Philadelphia born midfielder nevertheless was sure to say he will be there in spirit:

"I'll definitely be watching it," Convey insisted. "A couple of the guys called me and asked if I would be going and I said no so I just wished them luck."

Meanwhile Marcus Hahnemann has been told he is on stand-by for the fixture but will not be formally listed in the 22-man roster.

"Bruce sent me an email and told me I'm on standby," Hahnemann told YA. "So I'll sit around for a week and do nothing."

The Seattle native affirmed he was disappointed, but still optimistic of a place in the World Cup squad in 2006.

"I'm not going up to Scotland but that does not mean I am out of the squad," he made clear, recounting his recent good form for the US in the Guatemala game.

"I have been doing well and I did well when I went and you can't change that and I am doing great here."

When asked if he thought he was still in Bruce Arena's mind he replied: "I hope so."

Hahnemann then ascribed his exclusion simply to playing in a position where the U.S. has a lot of strength in depth: "We have such good goalkeepers," he admitted, before adding positively,

"You never know I might end up going up there. I might just even go up for some American snacks as their equipment room is unbelievable with all the treats they have got. They have cases and cases of the stuff you can't get down here!"

Marcus Hahnemann has won six caps for the US National Team and Bobby Convey 34 with one goal.
