ALTIDORE SUFFERS ANKLE SPRAIN

GENERIC USER - Thursday, June 3, 2010
United States striker Jozy Altidore suffered a mild ankle sprain during Wednesday's training session forcing him to miss Thursday's session.

The injury looks to have occurred when defender Steve Cherundolo fell and rolled onto the back of Altidore's right ankle during an intrasquad scrimmage.

Team doctors have the Villarreal man listed as day to day.

US fans can breath a sigh of relief as x-rays came back negative showing no serious damage.

However the injury does cast doubt as to whether or not Altidore will feature in Saturday's friendly versus Australia.

The New Jersey native will undergo a fitness test prior to Saturday.

Head coach Bob Bradley may be forced to tweak his lineup versus the Aussies br possibly shifting Clint Dempsey up top or rotate Herculez Gomez, Robbie Findley and Edson Buddle in the two forward positions.

Jozy should be 100% by Algeria and Slovenia, and lets be real... THOSE are the games that really matter if we want to get out of the group, and they're still two weeks away. Thus, I'm not too worried about Jozy. Call it pessimism or realism, whatever.

Also, the picture at the top made me miss Charlie.

This is a GREAT opportunity for Buddle, Gomez and Findley. Personally, I think if Buddle shows the recent great form that he had in LA, he may relegate Altidore to a backup role.

Everyone, be cool...he'll be just fine. It's a slight knock, nothing
more. And I am oddly glad. I want to see two untested forwards get the start up top. Bradley can tinker in the first half and move Dempsey up in the second if he doesn't like what he sees.
