CASTILLO CALLED UP TO US. OR NOT.

The agent for Tigres defender Edgar Castillo is refuting a story made by a Mexican news source regarding the call-up of the left-back by US national team head coach Bob Bradley.

Shortly after Tigres' 2-2 draw with Estudiantes this past Saturday, Mexico news source MedioTiempo reported that Castillo had been called by the USMNT for this month's friendlies versus Denmark and Slovakia.

The website directly quoted Castillo as expressing joy at the news and that he would be joining the 'Nats, starting this coming Sunday.

Not so fast.

According to the New Mexico native's agent, he never even made those comment.

"The statements supposedly made by Edgar this weekend were complete fabrications by the media in Mexico," Castillo's agent Eddie Rock, told me.

Much has been made this year regarding the national team status of the loanee from Club America who had previously participated in several friendlies with the Mexican national team.

However, under FIFA's 'one-time switch' rule, the dual-citizen elected to exercise his option and declare his allegiance to play for the Stars and Stripes.

With next summer's World Cup now less than nine months away, many US Soccer fans hope to get a glimpse of Castillo in a US jersey and see if he might be able to compete with Jonathan Bornstein for a spot at left back.

For now, it appears that the 23-year old will continue to work in hopes of getting a phone call from Bradley when the opportunity presents itself.

"Edgar is hopeful of representing his country soon and knows that he'll be called in when the timing is right," added Rock.

Castillo will be back in action for Tigres on Wednesday against Gallos Blancos.

I don't get it. Why doesn't he get a look? He can't be any worse than our current left back. Come to think of it, Why haven't I gotten a call?

Maybe a move by Castillo's agent to get the attention of Bradley. "Leak" a supposed call up and then deny it. Sounds good to me. Bradley needs to start looking at all possible options before the BIG SHOW.

Perhaps he is getting called up, but it wasn't supposed to leak before the official announcement and his agent is covering for him.

Why wouldn't he get called in? It's all upside and no downside.
