Former US U-23 defender Royal Fennell and his club Stuttgart Kickers secured promotion over the weekend into the 3.Liga.

Kickers clinched the Regionaliga Sud division title on Friday with a 1-0 win over Memmingen.

Fennell, 22, had been battling an injury late in the season but was subbed into the game on Friday in the 86th minute as the Kickers were trying to hold onto the lead.

Fennell's appeared in 26 games for the Kickers with 25 of the games coming as starts. He received multiple callups to US U23 camps but was not on the roster for the Olympic qualifying tournament where the Americans failed to get out of their group.
