American winger Diego Chavarri has signed with CD Cobresol of Peru's Primera Division.

The South American publication Ovacion reported the news on Thursday.

Chavarri, 23, was previously with Sporting Cristal. Last year he was off to a strong start to the season but he suffered an ankle injury last June and was never able to recover by the end of the year.

Chavarri now finds himself on a CD Cobresol club that is off to a difficult start to the season. Through the first six games, they have won only once and have just four points. They sit in 13th place in the 16 team Primera division.

Chavarri was born in New York City and moved to Peru before his first birthday. He is eligible to play for both the United States and Peru but has yet to play for either. He has stated that if given the choice, he would like to play for the United States.

The German regular season is finished, however a pair of American players still have work to do in the promotion/relegation playoffs.
