As the European season is fast approaching for the top leagues, many Americans saw notable action in final preseason games.
On Saturday night Oguchi Onyewu continued to show that he will be an important part of Sporting Lisbon's defense when he started in a 2-1 preseason victory over Juventus in Toronto. In the first half he picked up an assist when he headed down a corner kick for Yannick Djalo who hammered it home for the first goal.
For FC Nurnberg, Timothy Chandler is continuing where he left off after a terrific debut season in the Bundesliga. On Saturday in the club's final preseason game, he started and played 70 minutes in a 1-0 preseason win over Racing Santander.
Also with Nurnberg, Jann George is getting back into form after a serious knee injury last November. He started for the club's U23 team in a lopsided 14-0 win over a lower division team. It's difficult to draw any conclusions in such a mismatch but George scored four goals in the first half. George signed a professional contract with Nurnberg in January.
Robbie Findley also got on the score sheet over the weekend when he used a bit of luck to score the game winner for Nottingham Forest in a 2-1 friendly win over Stuttgart. On the play Findley used a nice burst of speed down the left side and beat his man on the dribble. He sent in shot that deflected off a defender and into the net.
Last week, Stefan Jerome played a full 90 for his Czech Club Sigma Olomouc in a 2-1 preseason win over Israeli Premier League club Maccabi Petah Tikva. Jerome made the bench towards the end of last season for Sigma but he has yet to appear in a league game.
On Saturday Hertha Berlin played to a 2-2 draw with Sigma Olomouc. Jerome did not play in the game but American Alfredo Morales started in defense for Hertha and played a full 90. Morales has been earning consistent minutes so far in the preseason for Hertha who were promoted to the Bundesliga last year. John Anthony Brooks missed the game for Hertha as he is still recovering from an Achilles injury.
