Across Europe preseason is well underway and a bunch of Americans saw action this past weekend in friendlies across the continent.
In Germany, right back Timothy Chandler has played well so far in the preseason as he looks to win the club's starting job from Juri Judt. On Friday, FC Nurnberg defeated FC Eintracht Bamberg 4-0 and Chandler started the game and was subbed out at halftime with the score 2-0.
With just a week to go before the 2.Bundesliga season opens, Ricardo Clark played the final 29 minutes for Eintracht Frankfurt in a 4-0 win over SV Waldhof Mannheim. With the score 3-0 in the second half, Clark entered the game in the 61st minute when he came on for Sebastian Rode. Clark has seen time at central defense but in this game he played his usual central midfield position. Next Sunday he will hope to see time in the club's season opener against Greuther Furth
After all of last season with an injured knee, left back Amaechi Igwe has left Igolstadt and joined Babelsberg of Germany's 3 Liga. OVer the weekend he showed that he will be ready do contribute as he scored a free kick goal in the final of the preseason tournament, the Toyota Cup, in a 3-1 victory over South BSC Rathenow.
Finally in Germany, Bobby Wood played the second half for 1860 Munich in a 2-0 victory over FC Heidenheim in the club's final preseason game. Wood, 18, is hoping to impress this preseason and prove he is ready to consistently contribute for his club 1860 Munich. Last season Wood, 18, made his first team debut but his season was cut short after he was injured playing with the US U20 national team.
Also of interest is 19 year old forward Danijal Brkovic who scored for FK Velez in the team's 1-1 draw against FK Olimpic Sarajevo in a friendly. Brkovic joined FK Velez of the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovinia last winter and saw occasional minutes with the first team but this season he is looking to become a consistent contributor to the team's offense.
