With the "silly season" less then a month away, the rumors in the British press have already started, and one is regarding American international Clint Dempsey.

Liverpool head honcho Roy Hodgson, who abandoned the Craven Cottage faithful for the brighter lights on Merseyside, seems to need help after Liverpool, who have become accustomed to top five finishes in the Premiership, have struggled to find goals. The Scousers have only scored 17 net-benders after 15 league games.

Dempsey on the other hand, who helped Hodgson get Fulham into the Europa Cup final last season, has managed to hit pay dirt a half dozen times in all competitions for a team that seems to be heading from the Europa Cup to the English Championship.

The Texan's team now sits in 17th place, just out of the danger zone on goal difference.

Although selling Dempsey to Liverpool could put an extra £10m into owner Mohamed Al-Fayed Christmas stocking, he would have to spend too much time at the Christmas party punch bowl to be talked into selling the one man who could help the Cottagers fight off relegation.

Watch this space for the further adventures of Deuce Dempsey!

Deuce to Liverpool?! Say it isn't so. It would be the same story all over again for the American player at a big club. Buried in the reserves with only the hope of being unearthed by an archeological dig...centuries later. As it was with: Freddy Adu (Benfica), Jonathan Spector (Man. Utd.), Brad Freidel (Liverpool), Jovan Kirovski (Man. Utd. and a tour of Europe), Landon Donovan (Leverkusen, Bayern Munich), Kenny Cooper (Man. Utd.), Jozy Altidore (Villareal, Hull), Paul Caligiuri (Rostock) Zak Whitbread (Liverpool), DaMarcus Beasley (Man. City, Rangers) etc. etc. ad nauseum.

I'm tired of reading the words, "and -insert name of American player here- is not expected to feature for -insert name of Euro club here- this weekend."

If it is within your power to do so, remain in West London Clinton.

Tim, I agree with you. Sochaux is not using Davies, and they aren't going to. Davies works very well with Deuce, so if Deuce is going to Liverpool, it might make sense for Hodgson to go snatch Davies, too. The "Pool" has the money to do so. Even easier would be for Fayed to keep Dempsey, and go after Davies (or Donovan, or Altidore) himself.

Liverpool is a bad fit for Clint. Villa, Bolton, or Everton would be better. Everton would be great if they grab Donovan, too.

Of course, the Department Store Guy could outbid Everton for Donovan, then sign him for good.

Clint needs to stay where he is...plenty of playing time, leading goal scorer, and strong support. A move to Liverpool lands him at a dysfunctional club with no guarantee of playing time. Why risk that?

As much as I'd like to see Clint playing with a world-class club like Liverpool, I think Fulham (barring relegation) is a perfect fit for him right now.... He is the team's leading scorer and he is guaranteed 90 minutes on the pitch every Saturday against the best clubs in England. I just do not see him getting the playing time at Liverpool that he is getting with Fulham FC.... Obviously, a move would beneficial if Fulham were to be relegated, but even after today's yet-another-draw at home, I expect Fulham to remain in the top-flight, and with a healthy squad, be back to playing competitive football... In short, I just don't think it is wise to mess with what seems to be a perfect situation for Clint..

As much as I love Clint, I'm not sure that Liverpool is either the right move, or any more than just pure BS rumor... Who originated the rumor? What makes it likely? Beware of anything that originates in from the English press...

PS. Donovan likely to stay home and rest rather than go back to Everton.

good move. dempsey needs to leave Fulham. Although Liverpool may not be "great" right now. they're still better than Fulham. Plus playing with his old coach should make it an easier transition.

This would be great!

a move away from struggling Fulham would be a good move for Dempsey but he'd have to go to a much better team and at this point (and in the near future) Liverpool is not a much better team.

Dempsey to Spurs would be nice. How about Aston Villa? But Liverpool? Forgetaboutit!!!
