Club Career

After spending three years at the IMG Academy, Vassilev headed to England to join Aston Villa in 2018.

He started playing with Villa's Under-23 team in Premier League 2, a developmental league, scoring four goals in his first six games in the 2019-2020 season. This earned him a promotion to the first team. On January 4, 2020, he made his first appearance for the team, coming off the bench in their FA Cup game against Fulham. He followed that up with his first Premier League appearance as he came on as a substitute in their game against Brighton.

On September 17, 2020, it was announced that Vassilev would go out on loan to League One team Burton Albion for the season.

International Career

Born in the United States to Bulgarian parents, Vassilev is eligible to represent either country.

Vassilev played for the U.S. Under-17 team in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

He has moved on to play for the U.S. Under-20.
