Novakovich was bound for Marquette University as he signed a letter of intent to play college soccer at the institution, but nixed those plans when he signed on to join Reading in June 2014.
The towering forward would then head out on loan to National League team Cheltenham Town in November 2015.
Upon his return from loan, Novakovich was assigned to Reading's Under-23 team for the 2016-2017 season, in which he scored 16 goals.
In July 2017, Reading and Novakovich came to terms on a new two-year contract and he will head to join SC Telstar of the Dutch Eerste Divsie on a season-long loan. He would go on to score 19 goals in 35 games for the team.
In June 2018, Novakovich would sign a two-year extension with Reading before being shipped out on loan again, this time moving up to the Dutch Eredivisie to play for Fortuna Sittard. He would put away nine goals in 29 games.
Novakovich was looking to fight his way into Reading's first team for the 2019-2020 Championship season, but with a few forwards ahead of him he was transfered to Italian Serie B team Frosinone in September 2019.
Although born in the United States, Novakovich also holds British and Serbian passports, making him eligible to play for those countries.
After playing across the youth level for the United States, he received his first call up to the senior team in March 2018 for a friendly against Paraguay.
